01/03/2009 - Chase is born today!
Chase weighed 8 lbs., 14 oz. & measured 20" at birth
01/05/2009 - Chase drank exclusively breast milk all day and night.
His nurses supplemented my feedings with formula right after he was born, because his blood sugar levels were low, but now I feel like my colostrum/milk should suffice.
01/08/2009 - Chase uses his hands to keep his pacifier in at night.
Even though they are covered with baby mittens, he has learned to hold his hands to his mouth when he turns his head so that it doesn't fall out. Omg, what a bright little boy we have! I also want to mention that Chase is almost able to support his own head without help, and we haven't even begun Tummy Time yet!
01/09/2009 - Chase's first pediatrician appointment.
He's lost 8 oz. since birth and now weighs 8 lbs., 6 oz. His doc says this is normal, as babies sometimes lose up to 10% of their newborn weight (esp. breast fed babies). The doctor notes that everything else looks fine!
01/10/2009 - Chase is 1 week old today!
We had a GREAT night last night, thanks to the advice of my mom and our pediatrician. We now have Chase on a bedtime schedule in which he lays down at 8 pm, and awakens every 1.5 hours to nurse. He understands now that when mommy and daddy lay him back down after a feeding it's sleep time. It's nice to finally have some consistency! (I guess this was Chase's push present to Mommy)
01/12/2009 - Chase frets instead of cries during the night now
As I noted a couple of days ago, when Chase is hungry he wakes up to let us know. Now, instead of crying/screaming to communicate this to us, he makes a quiet little fretting noise instead. This indicates to us that he is hungry, needs to be changed, or is uncomfortable in some other way. The house is so much calmer now.
01/14/2009 - Chase follows objects briefly with his eyes
According to BabyCenter.com Chase is advanced for his age. By age 1 month only 50% of babies have mastered this, and little Chase has it down at 11 days! Go Chase!
01/17/2009 - Chase is 2 weeks old today!
The remains of Chase's umbilical cord stump fell off this morning.
01/24/2009 - Chase is 3 weeks old today!
He's getting so big! He now drinks 2 full oz. of pumped milk from a bottle when Daddy feeds him.
01/26/09 - Chase goes full day without his mittens
And he did fabulously! Only one tiny little scratch on the tip of his nose, but otherwise he used his little hands and fingers for appropriate, exploratory play. The nursing experience has also become that much more special, as he now grabs my shirt, and rubs my cheek or back.
01/28/09 - Chase slept his longest stretch last night
Chase slept for two 4-hour intervals last night and one 3-hour interval, starting from when we first laid him down at his 7:30 pm bedtime. This beats the 1.5-2 hour intervals he had been sleeping in the past. Yay!
01/31/2009 - Chase is cooing now!
He has started cooing and making other vocal sounds now! He sounds so cute! He is especially chatty in the early morning.
02/01/2009 - Chase has found his hands and fingers now!
It's so cute when he sucks on his fist now and then! He also holds his pacifier in his mouth with his hand to secure it.
02/03/20097 - Chase is 1 month today!
Chase is holding his head up longer and longer now. His neck is getting so strong!
02/09/2009 - Chase is smiling every day now!
He especially loves to smile when getting his diaper changed, after feedings, and also in response to Mommy's silly faces/antics.
03/03/2009 - Chase is 2 months today!
He is getting so big! He now drinks nearly 6 oz. during feedings, and he holds the bottle along with mommy and daddy.
03/07/2009 - Chase waved "bye-bye" to Daddy!
Daddy has been working with him on "bye-bye" for the past few weeks, and he finally raised his hand in response to daddy waving to him as he left the house!
03/11/2009 - Chase rolled over today!
He was tired of being on his stomach during tummy time, so he decided to roll right on over to his back. We were thrilled!
03/12/2009 - Chase plays with his mobiles now.
He now is aware of the mobile on his bouncer and activity mat, and he loves to bat, grab, laugh, and smile at them. He is mesmerized by the bright colors and fun noises they make. He especially loves kisses from Mr. Monkey and Ms. Giraffe!
04/03/2009 - Chase is 3 months old today!
He now drinks up to 6.5 oz. of milk from a bottle and, during tummy time (which he now LOVES, btw!) he holds his head up steadily for long intervals before resting.
04/04/2009 - Chase smiled at himself in the mirror.
I'm not sure whether he recognized his own reflection or not, but he studied his image very carefully for a few moments, then started grinning and beaming excitedly. He actually leaned in closer for a better look!
05/9/2009 - Chase sits up alone.
Chase's back muscles have been getting stronger every day. When I prop him up, I often moved my hands aside a tad to see if he can stay up by himself. He usually falls to the side after a few seconds. Today he was able to balance himself for about 30 seconds before starting to tip to the side. Wow!!! What a big, strong boy you are!
05/16/2009 - Chase eats solids.
We fed Chase Gerber's baby cereal (rice) today. His pediatrician told us that once he was drinking 8 oz. of milk it was time to introduce solids. Chase was a little confused by the food on the spoon, but seemed not to mind the taste.
05/22/2009 - Chase holds his bottle.
Although he often puts his little hands around the bottle while he eats, today he held it in his hands for a full three minutes without mommy's help. Go Chase!
05/24/2009 - Chase sits up for 5 full minutes!
Today he was able to remain sitting by himself for 5 minutes. I tried again several more times throughout the day, and each time he could balance himself a little longer. We're so excited!
07/27/2009 - Chase is experimenting with mobility!
While sitting up today, Chase intentionally fell forward to his hands and knees and it looked as though he were trying to crawl. He hasn't crawled just yet, but is able to easily "wriggle" from Point A to B.
08/15/2009 - Chase claps by himself.
Chase was watching his favorite Noggin music video and began laughing and clapping spontaneously to the music - without prompting. He just loves music!
